⚽ Become a Coach with AYSO Region 641

AYSO Region 641 coaches are the heart of our program. Thank you for volunteering your time, energy, and passion to help our players grow in confidence, teamwork, and love for the game.
As an AYSO coach, you help bring our six philosophies to life every season:
Everyone Plays®, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, and Player Development — creating a fun, safe, and player-focused experience for every child. Whether you're a brand new coach or returning for another great season, this guide will walk you through everything you need to get cleared, trained, and game-ready.

All Coaches – New & Returning

Step 1: Register as a Volunteer

Every coach must submit a Volunteer Application each season.

  1. Go to www.ayso641.org
  2. Click Login or Register Now in the top right corner
  3. Go to your My Account page
  4. Click Volunteer on the left menu
  5. Click Find Volunteer Roles
  6. Select the current season (example: Spring 2026)
  7. Click View Roles
  8. Find your age division and select:
    • Head Coach, or
    • Assistant Coach
Important! When asked “Who would you like to sign up for this role?”
✅ Select YOURSELF (the first option)
DO NOT select “Sign up a new user” — this creates major registration issues.
After you submit:
  • You’ll receive a confirmation email
  • You’ll receive an email from Sterling Volunteers to complete your background check
Returning Coaches: You must submit a new volunteer application every season and make sure your Sterling Background Check has not expired.

Step 2: Complete SafeSport Training

SafeSport is required for all adult coaches.

  1. Log in to your Sports Connect account
  2. Go to the Volunteer page
  3. Click Important Information from AYSO at the top
  4. Follow the SafeSport link and instructions

Important Notes:
  • Use your legal name
  • Use the same email address as your Sports Connect account
  • DO NOT upload your certificate — AYSO receives this automatically
  • Minors do NOT take SafeSport
Returning Coaches: If your SafeSport has expired, complete the correct refresher course:
  • Refresher I
  • Refresher II

-DO NOT upload the certificate. Make sure the full name and email address on your "Safesport Trained" or "Safesport Refresher" Course matches exactly with your full name and email address in Sports Connect.
