Steps to Becoming an AYSO Referee
Register as an AYSO volunteer on the Pass Area AYSO website at:
https://account.passareaayso.org/
LOGIN to the Pass Area AYSO Region 641 Blue Sombrero website OR if you don't already have an account, click REGISTER NOW
Click "Volunteer" on the menu on the left
On the Volunteer Screen click the green ‘Find Volunteer Roles’ button.
Select Program(s) to View Volunteer Roles” screen, click “+Select” button next to
Volunteer Registration, then ‘view roles.’
On the Roles Screen, choose referee and any other roles you wish to volunteer for.
On the E-Signature screen, choose “click here to update e-sign form”
Follow the prompts to complete your account setup & return to the Home page
Complete the Safe Haven and CDC Concussion Awareness courses online
Login to AYSOU (using your username/password for this website)
Under "Online Courses" Complete the Safe Haven Course and the CDC Concussion Course
Print your certificates
Take the In-Person Regional Referee Course
This option generally consists of an 8 hour course, offered all-day on a weekend day or on two weeknights. Course length may vary depending on the presenter. These courses are not currently offered in Chino Hills, however are available in nearby regions.
Login to AYSOU (using your username/password for this website)
Register for the Regional Referee Course: Go to In-Person Courses > Referee Instructor Led Courses > Regional Referee Course & click the 'Sessions' button to the right
Choose a location and date that is convenient for you and then press 'Register'
Attend the course at the date and time described by the course instructions
ALTERNATIVE: Take the Basic Referee Course - This is a two-part process, an online session and a classroom session
Login to AYSOU (using your username/password for this website)
Register for the classroom session: Go to In-Person Courses > Referee Instructor Led Courses > Regional Referee Online Companion Course & click the 'Sessions' button to the right
From one of the available dates on the 'New Referee Training' section of this page, choose a session by pressing 'Register'
Go to Online Courses > Regional Referee Training Course
Take the online module: YOU MUST COMPLETE THE MODULE PRIOR TO THE CLASSROOM SESSION
Attend the classroom session on the date you chose at registration
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there an age restriction?
A: Yes, referees must be at least 12 years old, but there is no upper age limit. Youth referees can officiate one age bracket below their own age level.
Q: Do I need to pre-register for a course?
A. Yes! YOU MUST REGISTER TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THE CLASS.
Q: What should I bring to the course?
A: Your online Safe Haven, Concussion & Regional Referee certificates. Also, you’ll need paper and a pen/pencil for taking notes. We’ll provide you with course materials.
Q: What if I am late arriving to a course?
A: Punctual attendance is critical. Late arriving students may be asked to attend another course
Q: I am a USSF Soccer referee. Can I referee AYSO games?
A: Yes, but only after completing the USSF-AYSO crossover process. The form and directions can be found HERE
