WELCOME

Welcome to Pass Area Region 641 Extra Program

Welcome to the Beaumont AYSO EXTRA! The Beaumont EXTRA program is a unique opportunity for interested players who exhibit a strong desire, skills, and ability to play the beautiful game of soccer in a more competitive, club like environment. This is a TRAVEL TEAM. Teams play against other top level EXTRA teams in neighboring AYSO Regions, including L.A. and Orange County. The level of play will be much higher than our Core program and the commitment as well. Games and tournaments will take place during major holidays, including Labor Day, Memorial Day, Presidents Day weekend, and Spring Break (April).

Fall/Spring League Games and tournaments:

The EXTRA season is comprised of 2 separate seasons. The first season is the Fall season that runs from September to November, followed by playoffs in December/January for qualifying teams. The Fall season is typically comprised of about 12-games, half of which are at home, and the rest of the games are away in surrounding regions. While most games are on Saturday, there is a possibility that games may be scheduled during the week and Sundays.

The second season is the Spring season. The Spring season runs from January to July and consists of tournament play, including tournaments in surrounding regions. These tournaments will involve travel, and games on both Saturday & Sunday.

Besides regular league games, many EXTRA teams will choose to compete in tournaments. These tournaments include travel and occur on both Saturdays and Sundays. The cost of tournaments is not covered by the EXTRA registration fee, however teams can fundraise money or seek donations to help pay for the cost of tournaments. Each team is financially self-supporting, so fundraising will be required for each player and parents are expected to participate.

EXTRA Criteria

What is EXTRA?

EXTRA is a tryout-based program where players are evaluated and selected to participate on the team based upon their evaluation scores. The top scoring players are invited to join the team. EXTRA is essentially a travel ball team - Teams will play home games in Beaumont, and travel throughout SoCal for away games and soccer tournaments. The team will remain together for 1-year (Aug 1 – July 31). Players are expected to fulfill the one year commitment and make the EXTRA team the priority over other sports or activities.

Playing in EXTRA requires a high level of commitment from coaches, players & parents. Teams will have a minimum of 2-weekly training sessions, 1-1.5hrs per session, and one game per week. All EXTRA players will play a minimum of 50% of all games.

Players must attend all games, practices, and tournaments or they can be removed from the team for lack of commitment. Parents should expect to drive to away games to play EXTRA teams from nearby regions. Games and tournaments may take place during major holidays, including Labor Day, Memorial Day, Presidents Day weekend, and Spring Break (April).

Is there an EXTRA team for every division?

Our goal is to create a team in each of the 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U divisions. The number of teams that will be formed in each division varies from year to year. This will primarily depend on the number

of qualified and experienced volunteer coaches, referees, and the number of skilled players that apply.

How much does EXTRA cost?

The EXTRA registration fee is currently $465 for the whole year (Aug – July), plus AYSO National fee and processing fee. This covers 2 full uniforms, socks, backpack, 2 practice shirts, and jacket.

Team Tryouts & Selections:

Who can apply to coach in EXTRA?: All interested coaches who meet the prerequisites listed in the Extra Guidelines (see link below) at the time of application are eligible to apply and must submit an online application. Please read extra guidelines before submitting an application.

Current EXTRA coaches who wish to continue must reapply to coach every year. The RC, EXTRA Coordinator, and a selection committee will make the final selection. (All selections are final)

EXTRA Coaching requirements:
● 9U/10U:10U Coach Certified
● 11U/12U: 12U Coach Certified
● 13U/14U: Intermediate Coach Certified
● 15U/16U - Advanced Coach Certified

● Current Background Check (Risk Status)
● Passed Live Scan fingerprinting
● Safe Haven Course Certified
● Cardiac Arrest Course Certified
● Concussion Course Certified
● Safesport Course Certified

Coaches must be in good standing with Region 641 with no prior disciplinary issues. Coaches must provide and maintain a certified 4-referee team (certified to referee at the level of the team they coach) that will referee other EXTRA games. Coaches should be able to attend all scheduled games, practices, tournaments, EXTRA meetings, and meet all Beaumont EXTRA guidelines.

How are EXTRA tryouts run?

Tryouts are open to Beaumont AYSO players and players from other regions.

To be eligible to participate in the EXTRA program, a player must be registered and attend tryouts. The day of tryouts, players will arrive early for check-in and be given a jersey with a number. The number will be used for to track and evaluate your player. EXTRA coaches will run their age specific tryout and players will be evaluated by experienced player evaluators on the following: Tactical skills, Technical skills, Attacking and Defending skills.

Remember that evaluators are looking for many things, like speed, effort, sportsmanship, understanding of the game, and positional needs of the team. Please understand that only a limited number of players can be placed on a team, and if your child is not selected that does not mean that they are not EXTRA caliber players. There will be other opportunities to try out for EXTRA, and other secondary play programs like Spring Select.

Does my player have to attend both tryout days?

No, but it is highly recommended that they attend both days. This will give your player 2 days’ worth of evaluations with 2-4 different evaluators, which can potentially better their chances of being selected.

FAQs

Can players who are selected play for EXTRA and Club soccer at the same time?
NO. Players cannot play in EXTRA and a Club soccer team at the same time due to the high level of commitment required.

Does EXTRA require a big time commitment?
YES. Participation in EXTRA requires an increased commitment from both parents and players, including attendance at all practices, games, and tournaments. Furthermore, players and coaches are expected to honor their commitment to the team through the one year until end July. Players can be excused from a team if they are continuously missing team practices, games and tournaments.

Does EXTRA require volunteerism?
YES. The backbone of our EXTRA program like many programs, is the volunteers. As a volunteer organization, we cannot succeed without them. EXTRA requires that each team provide volunteers that are required to donate volunteer time to the region over a course of the Fall & Spring seasons. The league ask that each EXTRA team help with opening and closing field duties. Additionally, teams are required to provide a 4-person certified referee crew and team volunteers, including a team manager and treasurer. As you can see, we really rely on our volunteers in EXTRA. The overall success & growth of the program depends on it.

Do parents have to referee?
All teams must supply and maintain 4-certified referees in the level of their division. Parents must take the regional referee course before being a referee for any games. Each EXTRA team will help ref other EXTRA division league home games.
