What is EXTRA?
EXTRA is a tryout-based program where players are evaluated and selected to participate on the team based upon their evaluation scores. The top scoring players are invited to join the team. EXTRA is essentially a travel ball team - Teams will play home games in Beaumont, and travel throughout SoCal for away games and soccer tournaments. The team will remain together for 1-year (Aug 1 – July 31). Players are expected to fulfill the one year commitment and make the EXTRA team the priority over other sports or activities.
Playing in EXTRA requires a high level of commitment from coaches, players & parents. Teams will have a minimum of 2-weekly training sessions, 1-1.5hrs per session, and one game per week. All EXTRA players will play a minimum of 50% of all games.
Players must attend all games, practices, and tournaments or they can be removed from the team for lack of commitment. Parents should expect to drive to away games to play EXTRA teams from nearby regions. Games and tournaments may take place during major holidays, including Labor Day, Memorial Day, Presidents Day weekend, and Spring Break (April).
Is there an EXTRA team for every division?
Our goal is to create a team in each of the 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U divisions. The number of teams that will be formed in each division varies from year to year. This will primarily depend on the number
of qualified and experienced volunteer coaches, referees, and the number of skilled players that apply.
How much does EXTRA cost?
The EXTRA registration fee is currently $465 for the whole year (Aug – July), plus AYSO National fee and processing fee. This covers 2 full uniforms, socks, backpack, 2 practice shirts, and jacket.

How are EXTRA tryouts run?
Tryouts are open to Beaumont AYSO players and players from other regions.
To be eligible to participate in the EXTRA program, a player must be registered and attend tryouts. The day of tryouts, players will arrive early for check-in and be given a jersey with a number. The number will be used for to track and evaluate your player. EXTRA coaches will run their age specific tryout and players will be evaluated by experienced player evaluators on the following: Tactical skills, Technical skills, Attacking and Defending skills.
Remember that evaluators are looking for many things, like speed, effort, sportsmanship, understanding of the game, and positional needs of the team. Please understand that only a limited number of players can be placed on a team, and if your child is not selected that does not mean that they are not EXTRA caliber players. There will be other opportunities to try out for EXTRA, and other secondary play programs like Spring Select.
Does my player have to attend both tryout days?
No, but it is highly recommended that they attend both days. This will give your player 2 days’ worth of evaluations with 2-4 different evaluators, which can potentially better their chances of being selected.
